Testosterone therapy

Testosterone Therapy is replacing hormones that are missing from the body and looking at ways of encouraging the body to increase its production of testosterone.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is often prescribed to men experiencing symptoms of andropause (decline in Testosterone levels), such as lethargy, decreased energy, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, muscle weakness, sleep disturbances, night sweats, depression, and more.

What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a man's primary hormonal messenger that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions. It not only drives libido and supports sperm production but also contributes to energy levels, muscle mass, mood regulation, red blood cell production, and bone strength. As a vital component of overall male health and well-being, testosterone supports both physical endurance and mental clarity, impacting everything from athletic performance to everyday resilience.

Testosterone Therapy can assist with the following:

  • Improved Sexual Function: Testosterone therapy can enhance libido and sexual performance. Studies have shown that testosterone therapy may improve sexual function in men with low testosterone levels.
  • Increased Bone Density: Testosterone is vital for bone health. Studies suggest that testosterone therapy can improve bone mineral density, reducing the risk of fractures.
  • Enhanced Mood and Cognitive Function: Low testosterone levels have been linked to mood disorders and cognitive decline. Testosterone therapy has been associated with improvements in mood and cognitive function; improving motivation and mental/emotional stability.
  • Increased Muscle Mass and Strength: Testosterone plays a crucial role in muscle development. Research indicates that testosterone therapy can lead to increased muscle mass and strength in men with testosterone deficiency, also increasing athletic performance.
  • Improved Cardiovascular Health: Some research indicates that testosterone therapy may benefit cardiovascular health.

To get started, we begin with a thorough review of your lab work, checking key hormones such as luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and free and total testosterone levels. Testosterone levels naturally spike during puberty and rise into the 30s, after which they gradually decline each year. This decrease is a normal part of aging, but lifestyle factors like diet and exercise also play a significant role in testosterone levels.

Alongside testosterone levels, we assess broader aspects of health, including kidney and liver function, and monitor prostate health with a PSA test. Testosterone therapy is designed to restore balance to your free and total testosterone, supporting your overall vitality. This comprehensive approach helps ensure that your personalized treatment plan addresses your unique health needs for optimal results

Once you’re on a treatment plan, we continue to monitor your lab work and make adjustments as needed to help you reach optimal health and balance.

  2. How long does it take to see results from testosterone therapy?
Most patients begin noticing improvements within a few weeks, with more significant results developing over the course of several months as follow up labs are obtained and treatment is adjusted to dial you in. Individual responses may vary, and our team will monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed.
  3. Are there any side effects of testosterone therapy?
While side effects are generally rare, some individuals may experience minor symptoms such as mild fluid retention, acne, or changes in mood. Our team closely monitors each patient to ensure the therapy is safe and effective, adjusting treatment if necessary.
  4. Can testosterone therapy help with weight loss?
Testosterone therapy can support weight management by increasing muscle mass and improving metabolism. Many patients find it easier to achieve and maintain a healthy weight with optimized testosterone levels, particularly when combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise.
  5. How is testosterone administered?
Testosterone can be administered in several forms, including injections, topical gels, patches, or pellets. Here at Wasatch Advanced Wellness, we administer with injections twice a week. This is a home program and each client learns to self administer their injections.

  7. Will testosterone therapy impact fertility?
Testosterone therapy can sometimes reduce sperm production, impacting fertility. If preserving fertility is a concern, we can discuss alternative approaches or treatments to help maintain hormone balance without compromising fertility.
  8. How much does testosterone therapy cost, and does insurance cover it?
Wasatch Advanced Wellness is a cash clinic that specializes in health and wellness. Testosterone therapy is a monthly membership program that includes all ordered prescriptions, supplies, follow up labs and provider visits, along with other membership advantages. We do not accept insurance - but through your primary care provider, some insurance plans may cover part of the therapy if specific criteria is met and you have a primary care that is comfortable with hormone replacement therapy. Most primary care providers are not comfortable managing hormone optimization as it is not their specialty.
  9. Do lifestyle factors influence testosterone levels?
Yes, lifestyle factors like diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management can impact testosterone levels. Healthy habits can enhance the effectiveness of testosterone therapy and contribute to overall well-being.
  10. What if I stop testosterone therapy—will my levels return to normal?
